Clear golden-orange, small, foamy, white head. Aroma of ripe apricot, pear, apple, honey, clove, dough, fruit liqueur, vague varnish. Taste has sweet apricot, pear & soft banana, honeyish and doughy malty profile with spicy clove-like bitterness for a phenolic effect. Floral hoppy finish, lingering ripe fruit yet something dry-yeasty too to balance things out; rather boozy rum-like alcohol in the very end. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Good, sweetness was actually kept in check but eventually a bit too heavy on the alcohol.

Wittoen Tripel 7° - 1/3L

"Gruut" was a spice mixture used in the Middle Ages to flavor the light beer. The herbal mixture contained oat sage, trout, yarrow, rosemary, gale, pine needles and dead nettle. Hops were introduced later by the German monks and as a result the herbs disappeared.

For the Wittoen we do it the other way around and we replace the hops again with a number of old-fashioned herbs . In the end we obtain a subtly flavoured, amber colored beer . Definitely taste it!

The beer is soft-sour ‘Flemish red-brown’. A blend between a brown beer that could ripen for over a year in oak barrels and a young blond beer. The love for family and art is a most important pillar at Brewery De Leite. The father of brewer Luc was the 7th child in a family of 9. The friendship between the 8th in row, uncle Pol, and nephew Luc is deep. Cuvée Oncle Pol is dedicated to him. When introducing the beer, the brewer had conspired with the children of his uncle to give him a big surprise. They arrived with their father at the brewery ‘just to taste a beer’. At that moment, the brewer could proudly and happily present his dear uncle with the first bottle of this new beer.

Cardeña is the first Trappist beer made in Spain for the Abbey of San Pedro de Cardeña (Burgos), one of the oldest monasteries in Spain whose existence has been attested since the 9th century.
Made by hand with a careful selection of barley malt, hops, yeast and water, with a second fermentation in the bottle, following the centuries-old tradition of Trappist master brewers.
Cardeña is a light amber beer with abundant head of foam, fine aroma, fruity and herbal flavor with a long and slightly dry finish.

This particular Hommage has macerated for 5.5 months on a 2,000 litre oak foeder and with 280 kilos of sour cherries and 837 kilos of organic raspberries. The final fruit intensity is 372 grams of fruit per litre of Hommage. 100% 3 Fonteinen. 3 Fonteinen Hommage is the result of macerating hand-picked whole sour cherries and raspberries on young lambic for at least four months, in a proportion of 760 to 800 grams of raspberries and 200 to 240 grams of sour cherries per litre of lambic. This fruit lambic is then blended again with more lambic to obtain a minimum intensity of 35% fruit. Hommage is a bodied raspberry lambic beer, with an intense deep red forest fruit bouquet. This unfiltered and unpasteurised lambic is all-natural with no artificial juices, syrups, or sugars added.

In 1540, the people of Ghent refused to pay an additional war tax, with the result that Emperor Charles V had the ringleaders parade through Ghent with a noose around their necks, as a sign that they deserved to go to the gallows. Still today, the noose continues to symbolise proud resistance against any form of tyranny and misplaced authority. Gentse Strop is a tribute to anyone who feels a sense of pride in their soul.
