An Oude Kriek of traditional unfiltered blend of home-brewed lambics, spontaneous fermentation, matured in oak barrels. The lambic is macerated with fresh cherries for 6 months.
Almost clear, deep red body under a fast disappearing off-white/pale pink head. Nice aroma dominated by cherry, some acidity, hint of almond and slightly funky. Taste has some residual sweetness, but overall acidic in a rather balanced way – still distinct tart. Flavor is also dominated by cherry, cherry skin, hint of almond, mild oak and some funk/barnyard but not very dominating. Fine balanced body with long lasting, fruity and tart finish. Not super complex, but really well made with a fine balance between sweetness and acidity and no off flavors. The cherry tastes naturally and the overall experience is typical Belgium Kriek without making it way too sour as several newcomers in the business tend to do.
