Its light amber color is topped with an imposing white foam. The nose is reminiscent of its big sister, the Engelszell Gregorius with its aromas of honey and its sweet fruity touches. The toasted malt gives a subtle but interesting smoky side.
The palate is more floral, dominated by malt and yeast, and reveals a beer with character. The whole is underlined by light fruity touches which soften the powerful aromas of Austrian Trappist.

In 1540, the people of Ghent refused to pay an additional war tax, with the result that Emperor Charles V had the ringleaders parade through Ghent with a noose around their necks, as a sign that they deserved to go to the gallows.
