Abbey beers

As the designation " bière d'Abbaye" ( abbey beer) has always been synonymous with quality and tradition, many breweries have used it. In fact these beers are not brewed by monks. Some even carry the names of abbey which have never existed. The term abbey may indicate that the beer is brewed in the way used by monks, that there is an abbey nearby or, simply, that there is a monk on the label. These beers have no specific characteristics. In the last few years, a new category of Abbey beers has appeared. These are beers produced by a private brewery, installed within the confines of a abbey deserted by the original occupants in the past ( Abbaye des Rocs, Val Dieu, Abbaye d'Aulne...)

St Feuillien Quadrupel 11° - 1/3L
In Stock
St-Feuillien Quadruple is a very dark and dense beer. She is noticeably alcoholic. She dis- tinguishes herself by a complex and finely caramelized aroma and with shades of Madeira wine and candied fruit and an intense touch of fermentation esters (banana type). A slight hoppy smell (English style) completes the whole. The mouth is long with a powerful body built on the density and generous apparent extract. The bitterness is present but sweet and blends harmoniously with the malty struc- ture. The selection of special malts raises the chocolate side with the nuances of coconut. The saturation is average.

Grimbergen Ignis Quadruple 10,0° - 1/3L
Out-of-Stock
Ignis Quadruple is inspired by the story of the fathers' indomitable reconstruction of what the flames took. Just like the monastery, the beer is a symbol of the strength of the fathers, their courage and their ability to look ahead.
Generous notes of malt, oak, caramel and hazelnuts, supported by a dark warming fruitiness inspired by the monastery's conservatory.
The strong dark fruitiness goes well with venison and simmering food, while the beer's smoke notes make it ideal for cold-smoked meat and fish such as smoked salmon or halibut.

Augustijn Grand Cru 9°-1/3L
In Stock
Brewed by Van Steenberge brewery and delivered worldwide, the Augustijn Grand Cru is one of the best hidden secrets of the Van Steenberge Brewery. This Triple version of the Augustijn Blonde has more complex taste qualities and contains more degrees of alcohol than her blonde sister.
The Augustijn Grand Cru present has an amber and cloudy body head topped with a consistent foam head that slowly falls along the walls. In the nose, the aroma of this Belgian beer is very sweet with hints of spices, citrus and yeast.
The taste is too soft at the beginning and marries a mixture of spices evoking coriander. In the middle, the alcohol starts to tingle your tongue to remember its actually in the beer. The spicy aspect is then replaced by a hoppy bitterness and ends with some persistence.

One will taste white-fleshed fruits and citrus fruit followed by hints of yeast that leave an impression of spices and distinctive notes of cereals. You will also notice the presence of hop that progressively affirms its presence in the mouth and leads to a dry and warm finis.
