Originally called IJzerenband (Iron Band) – a reference to the iron bands around the beer barrels – the bottle gained its champagne cork when it was renamed Liefmans Goudenband (Gold Band). Made in open vats with beer of mixed fermentation, it is left to mature for four to 12 months in the cellar. Mature beer is then fortified with younger beer, so the fermentation process starts up again.

Cantillon is the brewer of Belgium’s most authentic lambic. This kriek 100% lambic is blended lambic beer brewed with cherries.
Pours a deep, bright ruby red color and capped by a very thin light pink head of foam that slowly settles to a thin film and leaves patches of lace around the glass. The aroma shows notes of sour dark cherries, earthy must, farmhouse yeast, barnyard funk, some lemon acidity, and notes of old, wet wood that lends a touch of oaky vanilla to balance out tartness and acidity. Fantastic beer and awesome fruited lambic.

To produce its Kriek, the Boon brewery uses its ancestral recipe. Kriek Boon is a mixture of young and old lambic, matured in oak barrels. After six months of waiting, fresh cherries are added. After clarification and filtration, the beer is finally bottled, after which it is sold.
This Belgian beer has a beautiful ruby colour covered by a pretty coloured foam. The uncompromising nose, powerfully evokes the cherry. In the past, raspberry lambic beer was rare, because it was produced only a few weeks per year, i.e. in summer. Frank Boon was the first to brew a raspberry lambic again in 1976. With a quantity of 300g of raspberries per liter, the Framboise Boon gets its fresh and fruity taste without being to dominant. The Oude Geuze (7 % alc.) consists of soft lambic aged 18 months (90 %), a character beer aged 3 years (5 %) and very young lambic beer (5 %) which provides fermentable sugars and viable yeast. This mix is made in a cooled tank of 25,000 litres. The Oude Geuze ripes in oak barrels. Before bottling, the geuze is given back its fermentation temperature in order to undergo a second fermentation. After bottling in an air conditioned room, the ripening of several months takes off to develop its delicate flavour. In order to know the bottling date of the beer you have to deduct 20 years from the expiration date.
