Liefmans Goudenband is one of the most distinctive dark beers in the world. Originally called IJzerenband (Iron Band) – a reference to the iron bands around the beer barrels – the bottle gained its champagne cork when it was renamed Liefmans Goudenband (Gold Band). Made in open vats with beer of mixed fermentation, it is left to mature for four to 12 months in the cellar. Mature beer is then fortified with younger beer, so the fermentation process starts up again.

In the complex world of handcrafted “gueuzes”. Drie Fonteinen probably is the brewery of which a lot beer lovers are jealous of. The oude gueuze consists of a Lambic composition that matured between one and three years in oak barrels.
In the glass, this Belgian beer with an orange colour and fine foam has a very specific taste that holds the middle between apple and lemon.
Like most handcrafted gueuzes, it is possible to let them mature even longer in order to diminish the acidity and to enjoy its fruity aromes to the fullest extent.

The Gueuze from Cantillon brewery is the fruit of a complex mixture of these lambics of different tastes and ages.
Stored in oak barrels, the Lambics of Cantillon Brewery are called "young" after one year of aging and reach full maturity after three years. Young beers contain the natural sugars required for the second fermentation in the bottle. The three-year-old beers bring their bouquet and finesse.

Ichtegems Oud Bruin 5,5°, brewed at Strubbe brewery, is a red-brown West Flemish beer of high fermentation brewed according to an old process with different types of malt. After the main fermentation and the long bearing, a third fermentation in oak barrels follows for 18 months.
The slightly acidic complex beer is then mixed with young, somewhat sweeter, high-fermented beer and results in an excellent and thirst-quenching beer.

Bourgogne des Flandres, which is produced in the legendary Timmermans brewery benefits from very old and unique brewing technique called "lambic infusion ". During this process, a selection of the best lambics is mixed with a brown high fermentation beer. After months of ripening in oak barrels, a delicious dark beer topped with a creamy foam comes out.

The Famous Duchesse de Bourgogne 6.2 ("Duchess of Burgundy") is produced by Verhaeghe brewery and delivered worldwide. "Duchesse de Bourgogne " is a mixed fermentation beer. It is a fruity sweet beer with a pleasant fresh taste. "Duchesse de Bourgogne" is brewed with deeply roasted malts and bitter hops. After the main fermentation and secondary fermentation, the "Duchesse de Bougogne" matures for several months in tapered tanks. The tannins in the oak wood give the "Duchess of Burgundy" its fruity character. The "Duchesse de Bourgogne" has a full, sweet and fresh taste: a ruby red jewel of 6.2% alcohol volume which is preferably used in a chalice-shaped glass between 8 and 12 ° C.

The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

The Geuze Mariage Parfait (8 % alc) is a merge of soft lambic beer (95 %) with at least 3 years of age and young lambic beer (5 %). This young lambic provides viable yeast and fermentable sugars. The two beers are mixed in a container of 25,000 litres, after which it is clarified and kept cool. During bottling, the lambic gets back its fermentation temperature and undergoes a fermentation before maturing at a low temperature for at least six months. In order to know the bottling date of the Geuze Mariage Parfait, you have to deduct 20 years from the expiration date.

The Oude Geuze (7 % alc.) consists of soft lambic aged 18 months (90 %), a character beer aged 3 years (5 %) and very young lambic beer (5 %) which provides fermentable sugars and viable yeast. This mix is made in a cooled tank of 25,000 litres. The Oude Geuze ripes in oak barrels. Before bottling, the geuze is given back its fermentation temperature in order to undergo a second fermentation. After bottling in an air conditioned room, the ripening of several months takes off to develop its delicate flavour. The beer is soft-sour ‘Flemish red-brown’. A blend between a brown beer that could ripen for over a year in oak barrels and a young blond beer. The love for family and art is a most important pillar at Brewery De Leite. The father of brewer Luc was the 7th child in a family of 9. The friendship between the 8th in row, uncle Pol, and nephew Luc is deep. Cuvée Oncle Pol is dedicated to him. When introducing the beer, the brewer had conspired with the children of his uncle to give him a big surprise. They arrived with their father at the brewery ‘just to taste a beer’. At that moment, the brewer could proudly and happily present his dear uncle with the first bottle of this new beer.

This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.
Contrary to one could think, Hanssens Artisanaal is not a brewery. The main activity is the blending of several Lambic. In Belgium, Hanssens is considered as one of the last great Lambic blender. It is therefore normal that this Oud Gueuze has been rated 99/100 on Ratebeer!
