This beer is brewed by the monks from the abbey Maria Toevlucht. Zundert 10 is a quadrupel with spicy hints, is deep redbrown with a nice beige head. Aroma of dried fruit, spices, drop and chocolate. Full and soft, balanced with a nice hopbitterness.
These monks are members of the Order of the Cistercians of the Strict Observance, so they brew Trappist beer based on their own recipe, made from natural raw materials. The monks live and work according to the rules of Saint Benedict. They go through the adage ‘Ora et labora' - 'pray and work'. To foresee in their livelihood and to support people in need of helps, they make all sorts of products like beer or cheese . To keep the quiet and stillness in the abbey, it is not possible to visit the brewery.

One of the best Trappist quadrupel beers
Zundert 10 is one of the best tasting Trappist quadrupel beers today, I believe. It isn't too different from most other quads but still has a unique flavor. Having only had a few examples of both and certainly not any kind of expert taster, I would maybe describe the Zundert 10 as something in between Westvleteren 12 and Zundert 8; very rich and sweet like the Westvleteren but with a hint of the unique Zundert flavor. It is definitely worth the cost to get shipped to the US since it is not available here, at least in my region.
